The Covid and postponed delayed outstanding 2021-2022 Acorn Charity Invitation Shield Final finally took place at Brantham Leisure Centre, the home of Brantham Athletic FC, last Thursday Night, 06th May, between the defending Champions, Belle Vue Social FC and Tavern FC, both of whom play in the Essex and Suffolk Border League. Belle Vue in the Premier Division and Tavern in Division Two.


Both teams started the match brightly but eventually Belle Vue showed their class and took a 6th minute lead when captain Alex Drennan netted. This shook Tavern, but it produced some sustained Tavern pressure which culminated in a 22nd minute equaliser for Ryan Wayland. Game On. From then on, both teams created chances but were unable to find the back of the net, however on the stroke of half time Belle Vue took the lead when centre forward Sam Cripps shot home. Half Time 2-1 to Belle Vue.


It was game over shortly after as Belle Vue added two more goals in the first ten minutes of the second half, firstly Sam Cripps added his second of the match in the 49th minute, and 5 minutes later in the 54th minute, Man of the Match, Michael Nkwanko netted. Tavern pressed hard to get back into the game but Belle Vue held out for the remainder of the game to run out the 4-1 winners retain and the Shield.


After the match, the Trophies and mementoes were presented by a resident of Acorn Village to both Teams and also the Match Officials, Dean Welham, Referee, Assistants, Joseph Greenleaf and Lee Webb, and 4th Official Simon Bowey.


The Competition would like to thank Brantham Athletic FC for the use of their facilities on the night, and the Essex and Suffolk Border League for allowing their teams to participate in this Charity Competition that supports Acorn Village.
