Report for Week Ending Saturday 28.09.2019

It was the start of the Amos Cup this week with three First Round games. Abbey Fields took on Tollesbury Reserves at Birch Park, and it was the visitors who caused an upset dumping out the second placed side. Abbey took the lead on twenty minutes when Joe Durbridge slotted home after chasing down a ball over the top. Tollesbury levelled on twenty-nine minutes when Jacob Maxted headed home a deep free kick from Lewis Ponder. Parity only lasted a minute however as Bernie Goldsmith restored the Abbey lead heading home following corner after a goalmouth scramble. Half time 2-1. Tollesbury came more into the game and it was no surprise when the equalised on sixty-eight minutes with Lewis Ponder heading home after yet another goal mouth scramble following a corner. Tollesbury sealed their win ten minutes later when as Daniel Lewis netted the fifth goal of the game which proved to be the winner. Elsewhere Sporting Rebels welcomed Parkeston Welfare Park to Plough Corner, and the league leaders duly went through to the next round with a 3-1 victory. Aron Brown netted after three minutes, Ruaidhri Kavanagh made it two on eleven minutes, followed by a second half Alfie Towsey effort on fifty-six minutes. The other tie between whilst Ramsey & Mistley Reserves and Oyster Reserves was abandoned after twenty-five minutes due to an Oyster player receiving a serious injury. The score line was 1-1 at the time with Daniel Rampton netting the Oyster goal.

It was also the start of County Cup games for three of our teams. Five League matches were scheduled for took place this week. In the Essex County Junior Cup, Stanway Athletic Reserves were away at Division Three Border League side Little Clacton, and crashed out with a 7-1 defeat whilst Langham Lodgers entertained the Border League Division One side Gosfield United, and progressed through to the next round with a 2-1 victory courtesy of an own goal and a Luke Songer effort. In the Suffolk Junior Cup Stoke by Nayland were away at the Kershaw Senior ‘A’ side Hundon of the Cambridge County League, but lost out 8-2.

The one other scheduled game was the League match between Tiptree Engaine ‘A’ and the Ramsey & Mistley 1st team, who currently lie third in the League table. Tiptree scored four goals for the second week running, but once again finished the game as the losing side, losing by a 6-4 score line. Tiptree took the lead via two early goals before Thomas Simpson pulled a goal back for Ramsey on thirty minutes, and five minutes later they were level through Stewart McFarlane. Tiptree regained the lead shortly after to go into the break 3-2 up. Tiptree then went 4-2 up via a Dan Poole own goal, before Ben Allington scored the third for Ramsey with twenty-five minutes left from a counter attack following a Tiptree corner. Ryan Dawson then equalised from close range on seventy minutes, before Tommy Farthing gave Ramsey the lead for the first time on seventy-five minutes and then he rounded off the scoring late on to secure the Ramsey victory with his second goal of the match.
