Wyrley Ladies FC Inaugural Winners

Discipline, both on the field and on the side-lines has been nothing short of appalling during the 2021-2022 Season. There has been an unprecedented number of Red Cards, most for violent conduct. Games have been abandoned because of violence; one required the presence of two police vehicles. There were more suspensions than ever before. One player from our League will not be playing again until November, next season, if indeed, the League allows that player to register again. It is worth remembering that the League can cancel the registration of any player who accrues more than ten days suspension during the current and preceding season. Consequently, next season there will be many players who can ill-afford more suspension time. There has also been more cheating identified this season and Clubs have paid the price.

However, there is one shining light and that is Wyrley Ladies FC, the only Club in our League that ended the Season with zero FA disciplinary points. Not one Wyrley player received a yellow or red card, a creditable performance during a time of so much bad behaviour. The League has decided to recognise the exemplary behaviour of Wyrley and have awarded the Club the accolade of Fair Play Winners 2021-2022. They will receive a very attractive Trophy that will be competed for each season and a cash prize of £500 which will be paid from the ridiculous amount of money that the League has received from Club fines.

Many congratulations to Wyrley and its players for being the first recipients of this new award and achieving something that every Club should strive for next season.
