The resumption of the NAPIT Sunday League after the Christmas and New Year break turned out to be a damp squid as only ten of the scheduled fixtures went ahead, the rest falling victim to waterlogged pitches. In NAPIT ONE the only game played saw Renishaw MW take on Eckington Boys at the Golden Ball Ground and Renishaw moved up into fourth place as D Talbot’s hat trick led them to a 3-1 victory.

In two just one game also took place and there was little to choose between the hosts, Tibshelf Town and Ashover Vale, a solitary strike from Armstrong winning it for Town who moved up to fourth place as a result.

The game between West Killamarsh and Steelmelters Arms went ahead at Spinkhill in THREE with the former looking to go top with a win against a Steelmelters side who find themselves rooted to the bottom of the division. Steelmelters began brightly and took an early lead through Tom Revill who prodded home from close range after the home keeper fumbled a cross. That was as good as it got however as Wests were stung into action, leading 3-1 by the interval. Any hopes of a Steelmelters revival were dashed as they conceded a fourth in the first minute of the second half and a fifth before full time. Liam Edge was a constant threat leading the home attack and scored twice to take his season’s tally to twenty, Bilson, Hanwell and Woodhead also scoring as they moved above AFC Bolsover into pole position.

In Four three games took place and AFC North Wingfield missed the chance to go second as they were beaten 2-1 by Lowgates Sports Club, White and Wharton with the winning goals. Brimington Park Colts beat bottom side Chesterfield Arms 4-2 to go fourth whilst Harleys Scarlets beat New Whitt B by a goal to nil, scored by Lee Cook.

NAPIT FIVE’s bottom club Brimington Utd began the New Year with a defeat, going down 4-0 at Newbold Sports for whom Jordan White, Mark Revill, Shaun Taylor and Ash Redman hit the target. A close game at Holmehall was eventually won by visitors Hasland Community who won by the odd goal in five.

Barlow Kingston Rovers travelled to Hillstown to take on Fidlers Rest in SIX and returned home with all three points after a goal each from Scott Whitehouse and Stef McCran secured them a 2-1 win.

In NAPIT SEVEN leaders Duckmanton Community began 2014 in fine style by beating Britannia Tupton by four goals to nil scored by Reynolds, Travis, Gallagher and Weaver. Squadron Medical were also winners, their victory coming at the expense of Boot and Shoe whom they beat 2-1, Crain and Lowry the match winners.

There were several ties scheduled in the Derbyshire Senior and Junior Cup’s with two of our clubs losing out in the Senior section, F C Britannia losing 3-2 at Sinfin and AFC Whitecotes who lost an amazing game against Bank 11-10 on penalties after the game ended 3-3 after extra time. Better news in the Junior Cup as Woodthorpe Inn beat Old Glossop Bulls 2-0 however Clowne Wanderers Reserves didn’t fare so well slipping to a 3-0 loss to FC Chaddesden 2013.
