SUSPENSION OF THE LEAGUE

At an emergency meeting of the Management Committee held on Saturday evening, the decision was made to suspend the Leagues fixtures from now until 31st January 2021.

The meeting was called against the background of the increased numbers of Covid-19 cases, hospitalisations and deaths been reported not only nationally, but within Leicestershire as well.

We appreciate that the guidance from the DCMS, the Football Association and Leicestershire & Rutland FA is that under 18 football could continue under the current Tier 4 restrictions, and recognise that Sunday youth football is continuing at this time. However, given the unique status of the Floodlit League as a midweek competition, coupled with the fact that there is no open age football been played currently, unacceptable pressure could be placed on club officials and volunteers should people turn up to get their "fix" of football, with possibly a massive increase in the numbers of spectators, and the policing of Covid and social distancing regulations this would require. Indeed, we are aware of one game recently that attracted a significant 3 figure gate, and whilst in normal times we would welcome and encourage this, in the current situation the risk of transmission is too great to take.

Additionally, this decision was also made for the safety of the players, parents/ guardians and the volunteers who work within our member clubs to put these games on.

A review of this suspension will happen at our next scheduled Management meeting on 18th January.

We understand that many people will be disappointed with this decision. It was not an easy one to make, however given the current on-going situation it was felt to be the correct one.

The Management Commitee would like to thank you for your understanding at this time, urges everyone to keep safe and well and hopefully football will return soon once this dreadful period passes.
