KGV COME BACK TO LIFT CUP

A remarkable comeback from ten men KGV Worcester saw them lift the Bernard Finnegan Cup with a 3-2 win against VBL Sports at St Georges lane tonight. With only four minutes on the clock, KGV goalkeeper Jamie Lambert was sent off for bringing down John Edwards outside his penalty area. Matt Upton took the gloves but on 28 minutes he was picking the ball out of the net as Edwards put VBL in front. Dean Roberts was inches away from an equaliser as he just failed to stab home from a Duncan Edwards cross.

Nathan Owen hit the post for KGV just after the interval but when Neil Taverner made it 2-0 to VBL, the game looked over, especially when John Mann became the third KGV 'keeper to be used when Upton suffered a hand injury. However VBL sat back on their lead and allowed Craig Selby to pull a goal back from short range. A minute later the game was all square, Owen converting a penalty after Selby had been tripped in the area.

At the other end Upton blazed over the bar from eight yards but five minutes from time Selby raced clear from the half way line and slotted the ball past Jamie Mikitczuk to complete an amazing victory for KGV. A shell shocked VBL were left to reflect on losing four finals out of four in the last three weeks.
