Kings United 1 TWS Cramptons 1 (Kings won 5-4 on penalties)

Kings United claimed the first piece of silverware this season as they defeated TWS Cramptons 5-4 on penalties after the two teams drew 1-1 after 120 minutes of football at Ramsgate FC.

In what was always likely to be a tight affair between the Premier Divisions top two teams, chances were few and far between early on but the deadlock was broken on 15 minutes, Ant Harris giving Kings United the lead with a low drive into the bottom corner. Kings held onto the lead until the half hour mark when Cramptons equalised through an Eddie Menga header. As the half drew to a close, Jack Penny struck the post for Cramptons but the teams went into the halftime interval tied at 1-1.

Cramptons started the second half the stronger, Penny denied by Magnus Lewis in the Kings goal. Joshua Williams was then sin-binned for Kings but Cramptons couldn’t take advantage of the extra man over the course of the next ten minutes. Both teams had chances as the match moved towards the 90-minute mark but defences were on top and extra time was required.

Kings were reduced to ten men early in the extra time period when Ben Winsor was shown a straight red card. Again, both teams had chances in extra time but a winner could not be found and it required penalties to decide the outcome with Magnus Lewis saving one of the spot kicks from Cramptons allowing Kings to score the decisive penalty to seal the Cup.

Magnus Lewis was named Player of the Match.
