Overview of the action from the first week of NTU's 5-a-side Bundesliga

Sunday 27th January saw the launch of NTU's 5-aside league for 2012/13 & with twelve teams entered it is already the biggest NTU 5-a-side league ever!

With matches needing to be held off campus this season until the City Site's Byron Building reopens for the 2013/14 season, games were held at Nottingham Girls High School. So far the league is being contested by 6 Halls teams, three Society teams and 3 teams of friends.

The honour of playing the first match of the season fell to Muay Thai Fighters (formely Gordon FC of the Clifton 6-a-side league) & Mill House FC, with the hall team running out convincing 5-0 winners over the Muay Thai. With Goldsmiths FC vs Average Joe's 5's postponed due to unavailable players, the next game played was Sandby FC vs the Law Society's Lex FC, where a highly entertaining contest ended 3-3. The game following this was the first Inter-Hall match of the league between Gordon House Massive and Cunning Stunts, with the latter representing Newton). Perhaps fittingly the match ended in a closely fought 1-1 draw. Newton's second 5-a-side team, Shevley Style, followed up their Runner-Up spot in the Refresher Week Halls Tournament with an impressive 5-1 win over Tripod FC (representing BSOC). The final game of the day saw the fantastically monkiered Exeter Gently open their account with a 7-0 victory over Juggling Society's Two Balls Are Not Enough, leaving them top of the league after the first week of fixtures.

Next weeks fixtures are:

Gordon House Massive vs Tripod FC at 1.00pm
Shelvey Style vs Two Balls Are Not Enough at 1.30pm
Muay Thai Fighters vs Goldsmith Court at 2.00pm
LEX FC vs Cunning Stunts at 2.30pm
Average Joe's 5's vs Sandby FC at 3.00pm
