Week 5 LIGA Team Of The Week - Kings Of Leon Osman

Summary of the action from Week 5 of NTU's LIGA 11-a-side competition

Week 5 of the LIGA saw seven games take place, two games in each league and an Inter-League Friendly between Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels and Expected Toulouse.

In LIGA A BSOC Bulldogz continued their winning run as they put three unanswered goals past FC Futsal. In particular centre-forward Aaron Smith impressed, contributing two goals and an assist in a man of the match performance.

The second game in LIGA A produced the most dramatic action of the day as Bassetts All Sorts played Kings Of Leon Osman. Bassetts had built up a 3-0 lead with just twenty minutes left and had looked impressive throughout the team. James Stubbs had in particular caught the eye, not least due to to his Pogba-esque thirty yard strike to make the score 2-0. However, K.O.L.O. were still smarting from the late BSOC All Stars comeback they had suffered last week, and this time put together a comeback of their own. First Ali Griffin scored a thirty yard lob before Sean Hackett rivalled Stubbs goal for Bassetts with a long range strike of his own. With the clock running down a K.O.L.O. was never fully cleared and the follow up cross allowed George Rawlings to volley home from five yards for the equaliser.

LIGA B two results that were more clear cut, but just as heavy on quality. Bayer Lexerkusen were holding Cypriot Society at 0-0 when they lost goalkeeper George Firth to injury. Though Lex maintained their attacking threat, the loss of Firth and the absence of normal stand-in Dan Greatorex, saw their defence weakened. In the end Cypriot Society ran out 6-3 winners, with Constantinos Ioannou racking up a hat-trick for himself.

Table topping Chaps Society played bottom team Pub Sports in the second LIGA B game. Pub Sports had recently taken on three new players and put in a much improved performance compared to their last two outings when they had been forced to field understrength sides. However, the greater understanding showed by the Chaps players showed in the end as they won 6-1, manager Benedict Pyle picking up they second LIGA B hat-trick of the day.

Over at Clifton Playing Fields the upset of the day took place as Red Stripe Belgrade bounced back from only picking up one point from their past two games to win 3-1 against table toppers Chamakh My Pitch Up. Barrington Burgess continued his record of scoring in every game so far this season for Chamakh though as he scored his 6th goal of the season.

The other game in LIGA C was a more one-sided affair as Meridian Court, playing with only nine players, lost 14-0 to FC Banterlona, with Andrew McGrenaghan racking up four goals for himself.

The Inter-LIGA Friendly between LIGA B's Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels and LIGA C's Expected Toulouse went with league ranking as T.M.N.S. ran out 3-0 winners. However, the game was far closer than the scoreline suggested, with T.M.N.S. first goal being particularly fortunate and owing more to a bobble on the pitch than anything else.

Wek 5's Team Of The Week award goes to Kings Of Leon Osman for their comeback from 3-0 down to Bassetts All Sorts to draw 3-3 in LIGA A.

Week 6 of the LIGA will see some changes in the league. NTU Men's Development Squad have been withdrawn from LIGA A. In light of this last years LIGA C and NTU Cup competition winneer History Society move up to LIGA A from LIGA B, with new additions Goldsmiths filling the empty slot in LIGA B.

History Society make their debut in LIGA A this week against Kings Of Leon Osman who will be looking to pick up their first win of the season. BSOC All Stars try to maintain their unbeaten start to the season as they play leaders Bassetts All Sorts and ACS will try to bounce back from their shock dfeat to BSOC Bulldogz against winless FC Futsal.

In LIGA B Puyol Pants Down return to action as they face new boys Goldsmiths. Pub Sports go looking for their first points of the year against the unpredictable Cypriot Society and Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels will betrying to build on their victory against Expected Toulouse as they play Bayer Lexerkusen.

In LIGA C the two top scoring teams in the league meet as Chamakh My Pitch Up play FC Banterlona. Expected Toulouse and Blenheim FC play with both looking for a win that would but them firmly in the title hunt at the top of the table. The last LIGA C game will see a 100% losing record ended as bottom two Ajaxonometric play Meridian Court.
