Week 8 LIGA Team Of The Week - Kings Of Leon Osman

Summary of the action from Week 8 of NTU's LIGA 11-a-side competition. The LIGA Cup resumes... slightly

The return of LIGA football after the Christmas break was heavily curtailed by the emergence of the bane of every football league: The Great British Weather.

Due to the rain causing the council to declare the pitches at Victoria Embankment and Clifton Playing Fields out of action six games had to be postponed. However one match survived the rain as the LIGA Cup Group E match between last year's Cup semi-finalists Kings Of Leon Osman and LIGA C new boys Red Stripe Belgrade was being held on NTU's own Clifton Campus Pitch 2.

Both teams showed that they were prepared to embrace the flat surface on the Clifton pitch. However, KOLO took an early lead in fortunate style as one two occasions mishit passes fell kindly to K.O.L.O. forwards in the penalty area.

Despite some heroic saves by the Red Stripe goalkeeper K.O.L.O. continued to extend their lead and ended the half 5-0 ahead.

The second half proved to be a more even sided affair though Red Stripe struggled cto convert possession and good moves into effective efforts on the K.O.L.O. A consolation goal late on was small reward for their efforts as K.O.L.O finished the game 9-1 to the good.

With only one game taking place today Kings Of Leon Osman are the automatic choice for Team Of The Week as their comprehensive win takes them to the top of LIGA Cup Group E and makes them firm favorites to qualify for the Cup Quarter-Finals.

Week 9 is hoped to see a full return of the LIGA games, with fixtures taking place between LIGA A & B sides in all seven LIGA Cup groups, as well as seeing Expected Toulouse play Red Stripe Belgrade in LIGA C.
