Overview of the action from the Week 7 of NTU's 5-a-side BUNDESLIGA

The BUDNESLIGA experienced it's own Black Sunday this weekend as the curse of Mother's Day struck the league, meaning that only two competitive matches and two friendlies were played, with five teams picking up wins by default.

The main beneficiaries were Exeter Gently, who had faced a difficult game against LEX FC until illness struck down three LEX players on Sunday morning. Mill House likewise benefitted from Two Balls Are Not Enough's dedication to their third year coursework, whilst Sandby FC, Gordon House Massive and Muay Thai Fighters picked up wins following the withdrawals of Cunning Stunts, Average Joe's 5's and Shelvey Style, who all took the opportunity to be good to their Mothers'...

Week 7's only remaining pre-scheduled match saw Goldsmiths looking to take advantage of the upheaval to move two points clear at the top of the league as they faced mid table CC Cosmos. However, Cosmos came storming out of the blocks, running up a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes, which was the first time a team had managed to score more than two goals against Goldsmiths all season. Though Goldsmiths mounted a comeback, it was derailed with the score at 3-2 as a couple of rash challenges left them with two players in the sin-bin and Cosmos able to hold on for a win with huge repercussions at the top of the table. The other competitive game played this week was the Gordon House derby between Gordon House Massive and Muay Thai Fighters, with the latter having lived in Gordon House last academic year. In an extremely entertaining game, the classes of 2012 and 2013 proved to be evenly matched, with the final score being 3-3.

As the dust settled on a Sunday full of unexpected events, Exeter Gently had reclaimed their position at the top of the table, just a point ahead of Goldsmiths and a resurgent Mill House. LEX's missed opportunity has seen them drop to fourth, closely followed by Sandby, Two Ball Are Not Enough and late challengers CC Cosmos. Shelvey Style are mired in mid-table, whilst the four point hauls for Muay Thai Fighters and Gordon House Massive has seen them move off the bottom of the table, with their places being taken by Average Joe's 5's and Cunning Stunts.

With Week 8's fixtures being the last before the Easter break, all the teams involved will be looking to go into the three week layoff with a good result. Sandby and CC Cosmos will be looking to establish themselves as real title contenders when they meet at 1.00, whilst LEX will be looking to get back on track when they meet Average Joe's 5's at 1.30. Exeter Gently play Cunning Stunts at 2.00 knowing that a win will guarantee them top spot going into the break regardless of other results. At 2.30 Goldsmiths and Two Ball are not enough will be looking to stay in the title chase by returning to winning ways, whilst Mill House will be hoping to continue their recent run of good form against Shelvey Style at 3.00.
