LIGA Week 2 Team Of The Week - ACS FC

Summary of the action from Week 2 of NTU's LIGA 11-a-side competition

Week 2 of LIGA saw all three leagues in action for the first time this season, though two games in LIGA C were lost to the poor weather experienced over the previous days.

LIGA A saw old acquaintances from 2012/13's Pre-LIGA's renewed in two of the three fixtures. On Pitch 2 the new look BSOC Bulldogz took on Bassetts All Sorts, who they'd last met nearly a year ago to the day in their previous guise as Table Tennis Society. Whilst the previous meeting had provided a 2-2 draw, this time round Bassetts came out on top, winning 4-0 against a Bulldogz team that showed promise that should come to be realised as the squad gels together. Pitch 6 saw BSOC All Stars and FC Futsal, who had drawn 3-3 in Pre-LIGA B last year, meet in an entertaining and full blooded encounter. This time it was the BSOC side that emerged triumphant winning 3-1.

In the final game in LIGA A saw last seasons runners up ACS FC take on NTU Men's Football's Development Squad. A communication breakdown saw the Development Squad arrive at the ground without the full squad they anticipated and ACS took full advantage of their opportunity winning 10-2 to put down a huge marker for their ambitions this season.

LIGA B saw the league debuts of five teams new to the 11-a-side setup. In the most action packed game of the day at Victoria Embankment Chaps Society played Cypriot Society Football Club, with the lead and momentum going back and forth between the two throughout the game before Chaps came out the eventual 7-5 winners. Conversely Pub Sports vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels came off as a damp squib as Pub Sports were unable to field a competitive team, though loaned players from TMNS did allow a friendly game to take place. This ended 7-1 on the pitch, but Pub Sports failure to field a side gave TMNS an automatic 3-0 victory. The final game played at Victoria Embankment saw new boys Puyol Pants Down take on long established entrants Bayer Lexerkusen. Last year Lex had suffered a torrid time, failing to pick up a win in any of their nine competitive games, but rarely being outclassed by any of the opponents. This season started on a much better note for them as they game out 6-2 winners against Puyol, who themselves are making the step up from the Serie 6-a-side (where they competed in 2012/13 as Destiny), and showed a great potential going forwards.

In the sole LIGA C game FC Banterlona made their league debut against Expected Toulouse, who picked up three points last week without kicking a ball following Meridian's no-show. There second start at the season proved to be as successful and certainly more entertaining as they won 8-5 in the highest scoring game of the day.

Despite the fact that they played an understrength opposition the Team of the Week award goes to ACS FC for their ruthless display in their 10-2 victory that sees them top LIGA A after the first set of fixtures.

Week 3 in LIGA should see all nine planned fixtures being played. In LIGA A at least one teams 100% record will go as Bassetts All Sorts play ACS FC, whilst at least one team will move off 0 points as FC Futsal play NTU Men's Development Squad. The third game taking place in the top division sees the first game of the season for last years LIGA B champions Kings Of Leon Osman as they meet BSOC All Stars.

LIGA B's fixtures should see the first competitive action of the year for two teams as Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels play Chaps Society and 2012/13's LIGA C champions and NTU Cup winners History Society Football Club face the rejuvenated Bayer Lexerkusen. The last game in the second division sees Pub Sports and Puyol Pants Down meeting with both looking to get their seasons off the mark.

At Clifton Playing Fields LIGA C should be given a bit more shape as all the teams in the league will finish this week having played two games. Ajaxonometric and Blenheim FC meet looking for their first points of the season, whilst Chamakh My Pitch Up and Red Stripe Belgrade will be looking to go level at the top of the league with Expected Toulouse when they meet Meridian Court and FC Banterlona respectively.
