Extreme Playing Conditions At Victoria Embankment 13/2/13

Summary of the action from Week 10 of the LIGA 11-A-Side Leagues

The snow caused widespread disruption and cancellation of football fixtures at Universities across the country on 13th February. However, the players in NTU's LIGA's are made of hardier stuff and all six scheduled fixtures were played at an increasingly whitening Victoria Embankment, with players and officials dragging the snow of the line markings to make sure the games could go ahead.

With both BSOC teams and Quantity Surville not playing this week, LIGA A's games involving four teams all looking to pick up their first win of the LIGA A season. Mathematic Bilbao and Brack City will have to wait another week for one after they played out a 3-3 draw in their second meeting of the year. ACS FC however managed to pick up three points in emphatic style running out 8-1 winners against Maltings FC, a result which saw them move up to third in the table.

LIGA B saw the meeting of two teams with 100% records so far in the season as Red Stripe Belgrade faced FC Futsal. In the end it was Futsal who kept their winning streak intact with a second 3-1 win in two weeks. In the second LIGA B match of the day Bayer Lexerkusen finally made their season debut and were unlucky to lose 4-3 to an Average Joe's team which is improving every week and picked up their first win as a team.

LIGA C saw two games played on the same day for the first time since 14th November, but it proved to be an event worth waiting for. History Society Football Club maintained their unbeaten record and their position at the top of the league with a 7-2 win over Bayer Neverloosen, whilst AFC Botton ran out 10-2 winners over Dynamo Chicken Kiev to move up to second. However, credit should be given to Dynamo as they played a large proportion of the game with only 9 men and no true goalkeeper, yet were drawing 2-2 after 25 minutes and continued to create goalscoring chances right up until the 90th minute.

Next week again sees the quest for eight playable games (and a return to Clifton Playing Fields for LIGA C) continue. In LIGA A BSOC All Stars and Brack City continue their hunt for their first wins of the season when they face each other, whilst both Quantity Surville and BSOC Bulldogz will be looking to avoid losing ground on each other at the top when they meet Maltings FC and Mathematic Bilbao respectively. ACS have a bye week. In LIGA B Table Tennis Society will be looking to kick start their season when they meet Average Joe's, as will Kings Of Leon Osman who play Red Stripe Belgrade, and Bayer Lexerkusen who come up against the league leaders FC Futsal.
