LIGA Week 6 Team Of The Week Pub Sports

Summary of the action from Week 6 of NTU's LIGA 11-a-side competition

Following the loss of all fixtures last week due to the poor weather conditions Week 6 became the last one where a full compliment of League fixtures would be played prior to the commencement of the LIGA Cup Group Stage matches.

In LIGA A History Society made their debut against King Of Leon Osman. K.O.L.O. were undefeated coming into the game following draws against BSOC All Stars and Bassetts All Sorts and went one better this week, winning 6-2. FC Futsal looked like they were in position to inflict another upset on ACS FC, going into half time in their game 1-0 up. However, ACS came out all guns blazing for the second period putting seven unanswered goals past Futsal to win 7-1. In the final LIGA A game Bassetts All Sorts maintained their title credentials by picking up a 3-1 win over BSOC All Stars.

LIGA B also saw three games played. After two consecutive defeats Bayer Lexerkusen got their season back on track as they won 4-3 in a close game with an ever improving Teenage Mutant Ninja Skrtels. Goldsmiths FC made their league debut against Puyol Pants Down. Despite a number of the Goldsmiths players never having even met prior to the game and the team not having played together before they put in a creditable performance in losing 6-1 to a Puyol team that are potential outsiders for LIGA B the title. If Goldsmiths are looking to see what can happen following a few weeks gelling together they need look no further than Pub Sports, who edged a see-saw match with Cypriot Society which finished 4-3, giving them their first ever win in the LIGA.

Due to the vagaries of the league fixture table and Merdian Courts ongoing recruitment issues only one game was played in LIGA C. Free scoring FC Banterlona went into the game knowing that a win would put them to the top of the table going into the Christmas break. However, their opponents, Blenheim FC, are the only team that can match Banterlona's current defensive record and the game ended in a 1-1 draw that kept both teams in the early season running for the title.

Week 6's LIGA Team Of The Week award goes to Pub Sports after they picked up their first league win of the season in beating Cypriot Society 4-3 in a truly epic match.

Week 7 brings the introduction of the Group Phase into this year's running of the LIGA Cup. With one team from each of the three LIGA's competing in each of the seven groups next weeks fixture will see all the sides from LIGA B and C in action against each other. Additionally, the final LIGA A game of 2013 will take place in the guise of the highly anticipated first BSOC derby of the seaosn. The All Stars had the upper hand over the Bulldogz in the league last year, but will be out for revenge following their 2-0 defeat in the Plate final at the end of last season.

Viva La LIGA!
