O Es rise to the top

Old Elizabethans are the new leaders of the Premier Division thanks to an 8 – 0 thrashing of AFC South Wingfield 93 who provided two own goals to go with goals at the right end from Oliver Wisdom, James Prentice, Lee Butler, Jono Jenkinson, Andy Boulton and Kyle Gould. The other game in the Premier Division featured the bottom two when despite a goal from Matt Lake and numerous spurned chances Trent Vineyard failed to break their duck in the number of points captured by conceding two goals to Derbyshire Amateurs who despite this victory still remain in the bottom two.
There are new leaders also in Division 1 after Alvaston United took over from former top team, Ravenshead II, who were engaged in the County Cup, by defeating Wollaton IV 6 – 1. Tommy Rutter netted four goals with Neil Ainsley and substitute Callum Cossey completing the tally whilst Bramley Junior replied for Wollaton. Lewis Angell, Kyle Allsop and Leon Bartle were amongst the scorers when Blidworth Welfare Red claimed their first points of the season in a 4 – 1 victory at the expense of Derbyshire Amateurs II. Kirkby Athletic secured second spot with a 5 – 1 defeat of Ashfield FC, who were hit with a double from Aaron Vince and goals from Louis Smith, Lloyd Lacey and Billy Shacklock leaving Dale Field to net the Ashfield consolation goal. ASHA still remain three points adrift of Sutton Travellers after the teams shared eight goals. Andy Hill, Simon Hill, Scott Tansley and Craig Smith were on the mark for Travellers whilst Ricky Barnes replied with a double for ASHA and Joe Hallam and James Melbourne also found the net.
The Notts FA Intermediate Cup Round 2 saw an under strength AS Plant United making it hard work for themselves after leading through Chris Walker by giving a penalty away against Bilborough United at the same time as having a player dismissed. Wes O’Rourke ensured that the ten men made extra time by equalising to make the score 2 – 2. His side then got through to Round 3 on penalties where they will face West Bridgford.
In the Notts FA Junior Cup Round 2 Woodborough United plundered ten goals without reply from Nottinghamshire Reserves. Michael Nester claimed a hat-trick, Jordan Grady a double and the rest came from Ryan King, Daz Clayton, Matt Bloor, Nyan Sukh and Matt Hulley. They will face a much tougher task in Round 3 where they meet Ravenshead, who are one point ahead of them in the Premier Division. Mansfield Hosiery Mills will not be joining them in the next round, however after they could muster only ten men in their trip to Awsworth Villa Reserves who treated them to a 10 – 1 defeat.
Elsewhere in the Notts FA Minor Cup Ravenshead II found Bingham Town Reserves too good to crack going down 4 – 1 with Sam Brookes claiming their consolation goal.
