Basingstoke League

Division One.

Eight goals came for top Tadley Calleva FC ‘A’ marksman Kye Theodore as his team trounced a Basingstoke Athletic FC eleven that included just four regular first team players. They came in with a 10- 0 win at Barlows Park and Theordore made his tally 23 in just seven appearances this season. Scoring eight goals in a game is some achievement, but it falls short of the record when Benny Horton scored twelve when playing for Hartley Wintney in the 50’s, when they won 13-1.
Athletic had signed a new keeper Steve Macrill on the day and his baptism started by conceding four times in the opening 31 minutes, all scored by Theodore. Michael Abbott and Luke Walkley came up with another two before the break when they led 6-0. Theodore continued on the rampage in the second period and by the 74th minute had added another four to his impressive record. Bradley Nash’s team now moves into second spot in the Division One table behind leaders Hook FC.

Division Two
The Division Two leaders Herriard Sports retained their 100% record after five matches after beating second in the table Overton United FC ‘B’ 2-1 at Berrydown. After just five minutes Herriard took the lead. Good build up work by Craig Hine and Karl Buttle led to a complete mix up by keeper Richard Howard and defender Paul Rolfe and Sam Weber took advantage with a low shot. Rob Perrett equalized within five minutes, his bullet header from Overton United First Team Star ‘Jesse Todd’s’ corner kick gave keeper Dave Purt no chance. Good chances fell to Perrett and Kieran Chard and many corners were forced by Overton, but keeper Purt was equal to them. After the pressure had passed it was Herriard who scored again in the 36th minute. There was some excellent play by Stuart Minton and his pull back led to an easy tap in for Adam Nelson at the far post. It was end to end action after this with Howard pulling off some good saves from Chris Dobbie, Hine and Sam Weber. Overton were always in the game and Joe Holder had a great chance but shot wide and Richard Spiers forced a good save from Purt as they pressed for the equalizer.
