Leslie Chappell, a hat-trick for SCS as they stayed in the hunt...

In League action...

Bottles were soundly knocked off the top of their perch by bottom side Probuild in yet another result typical of the Premier Division. They dominated from start to finish and took the lead late in the first-half when Kerise Powell lobbed the ‘keeper from the edge of the box. Josh Dance made it two when smashing in from a tight angle. Michael Bunker bagged a brace and his younger brother Chris also notched. Dave Clemmence scored after a scramble in the area.

Mallard took full advantage to go top. It was a great team performance and in particular from their defence and ‘keeper. Unity Nirankari netted through David Iweduino, but the new leaders hit six thanks to Craig Reynolds, Jim Bywater, Andy Pilgrim, Adam Hazelton, Chris Burman and Lee Noble.

Dun Cow snuck into second, Adam Furness, Ian Thorne, Ryan Butler, Lee Wilson and Shaun Marshall bagged the goals against MH Goldsmith, for whom Scott Durham hit a brace.

Despite going an Alan Collins goal behind to Broadhall in Division One, second-placed King Pin United fought back with Dave Holmes and James Wyatt strikes before half-time. Neither side seemed to capitalise on their chances with both ‘keepers making some fine saves. However, with literally the last kick of the game, John Johnston turned his marker inside the six-yard area to squeeze a shot home from a very tight angle to level.

Carl Fletcher and James Tyrer were on target in ProCladd’s win over Shephall Artois. Ricky Banks replied.

The bottom two met and Dave Banks gave Putterills the lead when the AFC Crooked Billet defence went to sleep. Billet were awarded a penalty for handball and Matt Arlick restored parity. Banks’ low drive restored the lead before the break. The next goal was crucial and Putterills got it in controversial circumstances with 20 minutes left when Jimmy Anderson netted despite protestations for offside.

In Division Two, Probuild Reserves were in danger of dropping some crucial points when Stevenage Leisure Ltd led at half-time thanks to Dan Herdman. Things got worse when Ian Woodfield was sent-off before Dean Allen levelled for the ten men. Then, five minutes from time, Matt Lockyear grabbed the winner for Probuild.

Sam Spencer (hat-trick), Reece Arbon and James Ougham were on target as Marquis of Lorne stayed in the pack. Theo Griffith replied for Fox.

Hartham Press showed good spirit to come back from behind on two occasions thanks to their two centre-backs. Times Club led through Glenn Armitt before a clever finish from Graeme Hulstrom. Dan Curtin grabbed the equaliser after Craig Mitchell’s strike.

Gary Hillard grabbed a hat-trick for Division Three leaders Broadhall Reserves. The Roebuck Gate consolation came from Mark Edwards.

Mallard Old Boys kept their slim chances alive and ended Stevenage Colts Old Boys Reserves’ in the process with all six points in a double-header. Darren Wilson netted from Olly Rice’s cross before the latter sewed up the game in a well-organised display. In match two, Alex Lawrence, Glen Storey and Dan Welch scored, whilst Colts’ reply came when Lee Falanga’s 70-yard free-kick found it’s way in via a touch off Si Wagstaff.

SCS are hovering in third after Leslie Chappell (hat-trick), Ben Courtney (two), Mkoati Hloaele and Chris Lyle grabbed the goals in their thrashing of North Herts Celtic.

Craig McDougall, Ricky Wilson and Carl Thompson gave Chequers a crucial win at the bottom over Breachwood Lions with a close-range triple-blast in the first-half. Ben Dye replied after the break when he received Dan Jefferies’ pass and took the ball round the ‘keeper.

Coopers are in touching distance of the Division Four title. Michael Prentice gave AFC Chells the lead, but Richard Griffiths, a recent signing from MH Goldsmith was on the scoresheet along with Ben Smith, Robin Lucas, Gary Chambers and Stephen Riley as they won with ease. A draw between Broadhall ‘A’ and Highwayman on Sunday will effectively hand Coopers the title.

David Pateman’s first-half hat-trick for Highwayman saw them on the way to winning all the points against Fairlands in a double-header. Ben Gumble also scored, whilst the reply came from Dan Kilbey in a game which saw a goalless second-half. They won the second game with a baker’s dozen to nil! Pateman (hat-trick), Bryan Challice (hat-trick), Steven Stapleton (two), Daniel Corns, Benn Evans, Ricky Mait, Antony Young and Gumble hit the onion bag. Fairlands were the first side to conclude their league season, which will be of some relief, but clubs have folded with better records, so fair play to them.

Luke Smith (four), Jacob Dawson (two), James Reeve and Daryl Thorpe were on target as Bedwell Rangers beat White Lion Walkern in a 13-goal thriller. The reply came from Matt Woods (two), Darren Bates, Dan Robey and an own goal.

Another double-header saw Marquis Rangers pick up four points. No scorers were forthcoming, whereas Crooked Billet Boro’s came from Steve Cornwell and Rob Smith the first game as they grabbed a point, Smith and Dan Hartland scored in the second as they lost by the the odd goal in five.

Division Four leaders Broadhall 'A' overcame Division Two side Old Town Wetherspoons in their Frank Neville Memorial Cup game. They took the lead after ten minutes when Terry Lee went on a surging run and finished with an unstoppable drive from outside the area. The game was then the tale of two penalties. Broadhall’s Michael Emmings crashed his kick against the bar before Spoons levelled when the ever-reliable Mike Coombes put his away under ‘keeper Will Harris just before the break. With just under ten minutes left, Paul Hancock ran on to Brad Westall's long pass, controlled the dropping ball and instantly turned it past the ‘keeper's hand to ensure the win on the day and comfortably overall.

Stevenage Colts Old Boys hit eight on the day thanks to Luke Bennett (two), Robbie Freeman (two), Peter Lane (two), David McGuiness and Sam Jones on target. Richard Stewart’s brace aswell as the three-goal start was nowhere near enough for Stevenage Old Town.
