RESERVES: Durham Lift League Cup!
While the first team were beating Brighton, Durham's Reserve Side were picking up a key result of their own.
The Reserve Team, who currently compete in the North East Regional Women's Football League (NERWFL), lifted the League Cup courtesy of a 2-0 win over Norton Ladies.
Goals from Molly Holder and Caroline Dixon handed the Wildcats a deserved win in Wilberfoss.
Durham began on top, forcing the opposition stopper into an early save as they dominated the opening proceedings.
Gareth Smith's side were knocking the ball about and creating the better of the opportunities, and deservedly took the lead on 40 minutes.
After the Norton goalkeeper failed to hold on to the first shot, Holder reacted quickest to force the ball home and hand Durham a half-time lead.
Norton came out battling in the second period, with the Wildcats having to defend admirably as they stood up to the physicality of their opponents.
And a big moment came late on in the game as Jenny Bitzer knocked the ball around the Norton keeper before being brought down - resulting in a red card.
While Durham couldn't make that free-kick count, they were offered a big opportunity moments later when a clear handball in the box gave the Wildcats a penalty.
Dixon stepped up and confidently converted the spot kick, securing Durham's cup triumph.
