NEWS: Dalgliesh Inspires Futsal Stars
Durham Women FC defender Ellis Dalgliesh was on hand to help inspire the next generation of female footballers at the Cumberland FA Girls’ County Futsal Competition.
Dalgliesh, a Scotland U19 international, was on hand to mean the 44 teams in attendance at the Sands Centre in Carlisle on a day which saw over 400 youngsters take part in the futsal tournament.
The competition is a yearly event, which forms part of the FA’s National Futsal competition and winners at county level go on to represent Cumberland in the regional heats in May.
Saturday’s event formed the first of two county events in 2018’s competition, with group stage winners and subsequent semi-finalists confirmed following the day’s games.
All semi-finalists will now come together to play a day of finals on Sunday 25 February.
Taking part in the tournament were two of our FA WSL Sister Clubs - Whitehaven AFC and Pirelli FC - who both took time out from their games to chat with Dalgliesh.
Jess Nelson, Football Development Officer at Cumberland FA, said: “This was the seventh year of delivering the County Futsal Competition, and each year it gets better.
“We’re really pleased with how Futsal has embedded itself as a form of winter football for our Cumbrian girls’ teams. Competitions like this give girls a great opportunity to come up against teams from all over the county.
“Well done to everyone who took part, particularly our referees and young leaders. We’re now looking forward to the semi-finals and finals on 25 February.”
