BIG MATCH PREVIEW: Sunderland (H)
It's a local derby in the FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup this week as Sunderland visit New Ferens Park.
Fresh off the back of a 4-0 win over Watford, the Wildcats are now looking ahead to a tough test against WSL 1 side, and local rivals, Sunderland Ladies.
The Black Cats have dominated meetings between the two sides in recent history - but could we see a cup upset this season?
Here's everything you need to know ahead of the big game!
Sunderland were the first ever winners of FA WSL 2 having clinched the title in 2014 and have since gone on to enjoy some real success in the top tier. A 4th place finish in their maiden season in FA WSL 1 was followed by 5th in the Spring Series as Mel Reay's side established themselves as a top side.
And they've started well this season too, having won two of their opening three games in a promising run of form which has seen them rise to third.
Reay's side will undoubtedly be full of confidence ahead of this meeting, and they certainly have plenty of talent at their disposal. Summer signing Kasia Lipka adds some composure to the midfield while a lively front three of Keira Ramshaw, Simona Koren and Abbey Joice will cause plenty of problems.
We've Met Before
Our last meeting came in 2015, when the Wildcats fell behind to Keira Ramshaw's strike before Sarah Wilson levelled things up late on. But it was Sunderland who had the final say as Beth Mead found the net in injury time.
Speaking after the win over Watford, defender Kathryn Hill said: "We're looking forward to the Sunderland game, especially after that great win over Watford last time out,” she said.
“We just need to make sure we go in with a little bit of confidence so that we can compete.
“It's a cup game, so anything can happen and we'll be going into the game looking for a win."
